Teens spend money…and read newspapers
According to a recent study by the Center for Media Research, 63 percent
of teens ages 15-17 spent one or more hours reading a newspaper in
the past week. Forty-four percent of younger teens (12-14) did the
same. * It’s just not true that young people don’t read
newspapers.
The teen market is very important to advertisers because it spends
money. Teens spent $158 million in 2005 and 46% of these individuals
say they will spend more money in the next 12 months.* That’s
a market worth capturing…and 63 percent of them are reading
the newspaper. Not only that, but 34 percent of those 12-17 said
they read local ads.
According to the study, 62 percent of teens have a savings account
and they spend an average of $74 each week. Forty-nine percent of
them read the comics, 42 percent catch the sports in the newspaper
and 41 percent look to the newspaper for entertainment ideas.
If your advertising campaign is targeted at this affluent market,
newspaper advertising can help you reach it.
