Customized Newspaper Advertising launches national online advertising
network amid record visits to newspaper websites
The online newspaper audience is growing at a record pace. According
to Nielsen/NetRatings, newspaper websites attracted more than 59
million visitors in the first quarter, 2007. More than one in three
active Internet users visited newspaper Web sites. And a recent study
by Borrell Associates reports that newspaper-owned websites maintained
a three-to-one lead over all other local competitors in advertising
market share in 2007, capturing 27 percent of the market.
In response to strong advertiser interest in advertising on newspaper
websites, Customized Newspaper Advertising, a national newspaper
and online planning and placement source, recently launched CNAonline,
an online sales network designed to provide advertisers with a network
of online viewers across the country. It is a partnership between
Customized Newspaper Advertising, and Dot Connect Media.
A group of 23 representatives from newspapers large and small worked
for months to identify the needs of advertisers and develop a network
to provide advertisers with an audience of engaged online viewers
only reached through the local newspapers’ web sites. The task
force found that:
---The Internet is the fastest growing advertising medium in America.
More and more advertisers are looking for ways to reach potential
customers through the Internet.
---Newspaper web site audiences are growing at nearly twice the rate
of the overall online audience.
---Newspaper web site users are more apt to believe their newspaper
web sites have credible advertising as compared with users of other
non-newspaper websites.
Through this partnership, DCM and CNA will sell national and regional
advertising on behalf of over 1,300 participating newspaper websites across
the country. This network of newspaper websites provides advertisers with high
traffic surrounded by local contact combined with an ease of purchase that
rivals Google and Yahoo!
Customized Newspaper Advertising annually places millions of dollars in newspaper
classified and display advertising for regional and national advertisers.
Dot Connect Media is a sales and placement organization representing a national
network of newspaper web sites. It is owned by TownNews, a subsidiary of Lee
Enterprises.
